The MTP® (Multi-fiber Termination Push-on) connector is a high-performance MPO-type multi-core fiber connector registered by Conec of the United States. It actually follows the MPO standard and greatly improves the design accuracy. It uses MT (Mechanical Transfer) technology to integrate 8, 12, 24 or even more optical fibers in a linear array into a single precision ceramic ferrule (MT ferrule). The connector is divided into male (with guide pins) and female (without guide pins). The interface has a positioning key and a white dot on the first core to ensure the correct insertion polarity. Return loss: The return loss of both is the industry's high standard. The return loss of multimode PC polished interface can reach >20 dB, while that of single-mode APC polishing can reach >60 dB. Since both Elite/standard can be processed with high-quality polishing and angle polishing (APC), the difference in return loss performance is not much.

Alignment accuracy: Elite MTP has stricter manufacturing tolerances to improve alignment accuracy. US Conec pointed out that Elite-level products use stricter tolerances on key parameters such as guide pin diameter, guide hole size and position. The connector uses an oval stainless steel guide pin tip to help stabilize alignment and reduce guide hole wear during insertion and removal. In addition, a floating ferrule structure and optimized spring force design are also used to maintain reliable contact between multi-core ferrules and improve mechanical stability.

Material Processing: MTP ferrules are usually injection molded from high-performance PPS engineering plastics and precision polished. The Elite version still uses the same material, but the mold is more precise and the processing is more refined to ensure stricter end face geometry and alignment tolerances. For environmental protection requirements, both production processes meet the RoHS directive.

Applicable standards: Both standard MTP and Elite MTP must meet international interoperability standards, such as IEC 61754-7 (MPO/MTP port interface), TIA/EIA 604-5 (FOCIS-5), etc. In addition, Elite MTP must also meet higher industry-level certification requirements, such as Telcordia GR-326-CORE for single-mode connectors and GR-1435-CORE for multi-core connectors. During testing, the end face geometry (polishing angle, fiber core protrusion, core height difference, etc.) should also be tested according to the IEC 61300 series specifications to ensure high-quality physical contact.

Typical application scenarios: MTP/Elite MTP is widely used in scenarios that require high-density multi-fiber connections. MTP connectors are widely used in data center backplane backbone links and parallel optical transmission (such as 40G/100G SR4, 400G, 800G, etc.). For example, 40G/100G multimode applications use 8-core MTP, while 400G/800G can use 16-core MPO/MTP solutions. In addition, Elite MTP is becoming more and more popular in networks that require large bandwidth and high-density access, such as 5G base station backhaul and operator fiber trunk lines.

Technical requirements, testing procedures and certification of Elite MTP products
